The material from which this bag is made is something very special.
It was woven in the traditional way on a wooden frame and comes from Nghệ Ander Province, a border region between Vietnam and Laos.
The work is demanding and time-consuming, which is why these fabrics are special and are valued accordingly. They are often part of the trousseau, a special gift or serve as an ornament on traditional clothing.

- old brass metal zipper
- matching old brass plug fastener/adjuster (metal)
- decorated with handmade tassels
How is a bag like this made?:
After I have located these materials and they have arrived in Berlin, the first thing they do is clean them. They are then spread out and patterns are adjusted and changed to use every cm of a given fabric. I find a suitable lining, zipper, webbing and fasteners. Then everything is brought together and I sew the bag. At the end, each one gets a final Finnish touch with their individual tassels and decorations.
A notice:
When upcycling vintage fabrics without composition labels and washing instructions, I can only rely on my experience and expertise to identify them.
These fabrics are many years old and may show slight defects and signs of wear.
